of the meaning of the Bhopal, India tragedy over the last
25 years for our era of industrial globalization.
Dec. 2/3, 2009 marked the 25th anniversary of the world’s worst industrial disaster in Bhopal,
India – often called India’s “Hiroshima” – where victims still continue to suffer a quarter century
after the original catastrophe killed some 10,000 in one terrible night and more than 100,000 still
suffer. But Bhopal is not just a human rights tragedy from the last century. In 2004 Amnesty International
reported that Bhopal was still a human rights travesty, a canary in the mine for the lack of governance of
